Shakti Love Notes

We are always growing. I love that! And the more I grow, the more I recognize how important it is for us all to share what we're going through-- even (and especially) me.

So these Love Notes are a space for me to share with you each week-- about the studio, my life, how our community is growing.

Have you ever plugged something into an outlet and nothing happened?

There are a few outlets in my home that are controlled by a switch, and every once in a while the switch gets turned *OFF*. It always takes me a few moments of confusion, stunned silence and frustration before I realize there's not a glitch in the electricity, but a ~user error~.

I like to imagine my personal energy is a lot like the electricity, and the places I spend my energy are places I've plugged into. There are tens (maybe hundreds!) of places I plug into on a daily basis-

every email, every conversation, every worry, every idea, every interaction, every thought is like a plugging in.

Which is fine, because I imagine my energy source like a multi-plug system, ready to multi-plug me into the world at any moment- emails, conversations, worries and all.

Every once in a while it's like the switch to the power has been turned off, though. I feel confused, stunned, & frustrated... until I realize what has happened. I've been cut off from my energy because my energy is literally drained, empty, out, kaput. And I think 'How did this happen? I've been sleeping, eating, going to yoga... I've been recharging. How could I be out of power?'

I haven't unplugged.
~user error~

Those hundreds of energy plugs are still where I left them. So while I'm not *actively* putting energy into those places, they're still slowly sucking some of my energy, which leaves me constantly running on low and over-heated.

It's like when you leave your computer open and running all its programs- you don't have to be working for the battery to drain, and the battery won't charge as quickly if you leave the programs open.

It's exhausting.

So I like to imagine myself unplugging from all the places I've been in the day, all the places I've put my energy & attention. I like to imagine pulling the plugs out of those places and drawing the cords back into the center of my body, my energy center.

It's like correcting the ~user error~ and realigning with my power.

And that's something I can choose at any moment- to unplug and recharge. The more often I remember to unplug the fewer ~user errors~ occur, the more my energy reserves stay full, and the more sustainable life becomes.
