Shakti Love Notes

We are always growing. I love that! And the more I grow, the more I recognize how important it is for us all to share what we're going through-- even (and especially) me.

So these Love Notes are a space for me to share with you each week-- about the studio, my life, how our community is growing.

Readiness is a way of being.

In Baptiste Yoga Methodology we talk about 'Come From You Are Ready Now.' I used to think being ready also meant being anxious or that readiness was the same as preparedness. What I've learned through yoga, though, is that to come from 'I am ready now' is just another way to say that 'I have everything I need. Right now, as I am and as I am not.'

Google dictionary defines ready as 'in a suitable state for an activity, action, or situation.'

The past ten days have been a whirlwind in my life— emotional, heavy, exciting, thoughtful, powerful, faithful, healing, inspiring, exhausting, overwhelming, joyful... Through the passing of a loved one to the celebration of graduating 43 SYU teacher trainees, my week did not look as I had planned. Yet it seemed that I was ready.

My own readiness surprised me. I was not prepared, but I was ready. All the work I've done and do on a daily basis had me in a suitable state. I was ready to go to my family in a moments notice, ready to do what needed to be done, ready to buckle up, ready to shift gears, ready to show up.

That's what it means to 'Come From You Are Ready Now.' It's to move, breathe & have your being from "Right now is all I've got." It's making the higher call at each step.

And the readiness can only come from doing the work.

This week was a powerful reminder of the impact of my practice and how important it is to do the daily work. It was a reminder that every moment is an opportunity to ready myself-- Right now is all I've got. I'm ready.

I'm grateful. It feels good to be me and to experience my own readiness through challenges, celebrations, and in the everyday ordinary.

Today, in this moment, I have everything I need. Right now, as I am and as I am not.
I feel equipped, full of love, and very ready.

I came into SYU because I wanted to learn how to empower others, but i didn’t expect it to empower ME as much as it already has. SYU has caused a greater shift in my life in the past 8 weeks than I’ve had in the last 2 years at all- it’s messy and challenging and sometimes really hard- but the good kind of hard where I can feel the growth happening. I already know it’s the best thing I have ever done for myself.  - Sophie Levy

Inquiry Corner w/ Emily: Santosha

Hi everyone, Emily here! This is the start of Inquiry Corner, a place for you to engage in inquiry each week. If you’re new to inquiry, this looks like moving through questions, prompts, activities, and conversations that help you learn more about yourself. I’m excited you’re here!

For the next few weeks, I’ll be posting videos on the yamas + niyamas on Shakti’s IGTV. The yamas and niyamas are part of the foundation of yogic philosophy, and they describe various tenants to living a yogic and ethical life.

Up next: Santosha, or *contentment*. Santosha is gratitude for what we do and do not have. It's is about looking inward for contentment, for a deep-rooted awareness and peace with the present moment. Contentment is like an unshakeable calm.

But how do we get there?
For me, daily meditation and daily movement provide relief from the battery of emotions and thoughts that make me feel far from calm.

...

So, this week, instead of inquiry, I challenge you to meditate. Every day.

Notice what comes up, and share what you find with someone you trust.

And, every day, write down three things you're grateful for.
